Privacy Policy

ControlPad connects your iPhone or iPad directly to your Mac over your local network. There is no ControlPad account and no ControlPad server, and we don’t collect any information about you or how you use the app.

What stays between your devices

To work, your paired devices exchange the following with each other, and only with each other, over an encrypted connection on your local network:

• From your iPhone or iPad: pointer movement, clicks, scrolling, the text you type, and the commands you tap.
• From your Mac: your Mac’s name, the name of the app in front and its window title, whether a text field is focused (so the keyboard can appear by itself), the list of open apps for the app switcher, and its network hardware (MAC) and local IP addresses, so your iPhone or iPad can wake it from sleep.

None of this is sent anywhere else. Your iPhone or iPad keeps only your Mac’s name and wake details, so it can find and wake that Mac later; forgetting the Mac removes them. Nothing else is stored beyond what the apps need while you use them.

Permissions

Accessibility (Mac). macOS requires this for any app that moves the pointer, clicks or types for you. ControlPad uses it only to carry out what you do on your iPhone or iPad and to know which app and text field are in front. It doesn’t read the contents of your documents, pages or messages.

Local Network (Mac, iPhone and iPad). Used only to find, connect to and wake your own devices.

Pairing

Devices pair using a one-time six-digit code shown on your Mac, which you enter on your iPhone or iPad. The code itself is never sent over the network. The resulting credential is stored in the Keychain on each device and never leaves your devices.

No analytics, advertising or tracking

ControlPad contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code, and neither does this website, which sets no cookies. The site is hosted on Firebase Hosting, whose servers may keep standard access logs.
